A Year In Review: One Year Anniversary!

Guess what?!  We have some great news.  It’s our one-year anniversary of having the shop! WOOOOO! Of course, we totally did not plan for virtual celebrations, but we’re grateful for a successful first year filled with coffee, music, and tons of new friends, nonetheless.

When we announced our “soft opening” on social media the morning of March 30th, 2019, never did we expect a line out the door within the first 15 minutes.  That was definitely one of the most insane experiences for our team, some of whom had been prepping the shop for over a year prior. It took months for reality to sink in (or has it even yet?!).

For many cafes, coffee is at the heart of the business.  While perfecting our brew is an essential part of our what we do, community is our heart.  So many of you have become close friends to us, and we look forward to seeing you cozied up around the shop– and it’s always exciting to bump into one another in public!

Life behind the bar has been a blast.  Our baristas and baking team have been our life blood and we have the best, most loving team around.  Coffee is not easy, and we have been lucky to boast a team so willing to learn and collaborators so willing to trust in us.  Along with our seasonal in-house creations like the Earth Sign and coveted Ugly Bastard, we were employed to create drinks for giveaways and shows.  Our creative brains were a go once more with pretty bevs a la Mouthful of Diamonds and the Cold Cold Man.

Pulling unexpected flavors like juniper into a drink is a riot - but real credit must be awarded to our bakers, of course!  Liv and her team have repeatedly surpassed any expectation we could have had for our baking program. Foot on the gas, these pastry magicians have been able to consistently offer a fresh variety of baked goods that aren’t only delicious, but appease our fellow Ferndaliens’ preferences.

Who makes a vegan, gluten-friendly chocolate chip zucchini bread kids fight over?! Somehow, they’ve done it. And people travel far and wide for our scrumptious little vegan breakfast sammies. Now with this SOUP… just wait to see what they’ve got cooking up next.

A huge part of the shop has been the community events!  We’ve been lucky enough to meet people like Chad Golda who has been hosting Open Mic Night every month (and now features a different local artist every time, too!), and Kevin Lamb from This Is A Good Sound who more recently introduced Drifter Sounds– a monthly music series featuring a lineup of surprise musical guests from all over the country.  And shout out to our babes from Shorsey who have become our house band! We love ya!

The community has been getting fit, too.  The lovely ladies from Motor Om kick-started the trend with monthly yoga which was especially dreamy outdoors on summer mornings.  Lisa Harthun from Sound Healing Meditations has been leading monthly meditations, and Michael Gorney from Brain Meets Brawn has been helping us all restore our physical wellness.  We’re doing it all, y’all!

Our first year has been a rollercoaster, but we’re feeling energized and ready to launch into our future!  As a team, our noggins are on fire with plans to continue improving our product quality, keep the menu fresh, and load the calendar with new events.  We have also been in cahoots with fellow community members organizing fundraisers and collaborations to increase our local impact for locals and Earth!  All of our ideas are ready to come to life, and you are all invited to join our escapades.

While we wish we could be celebrating our one-year anniversary with you, health comes first.  But worry not, after we push through this virus together, we’re going to throw a party the likes of which Ferndale has never seen!  Stay healthy and keep it weird.

We could not be more grateful for our last year.  One million thanks go out to our amazing team of women, our fearless leader, and our loved ones.  But extra millions of thank yous are yours - our community. Your dedication to our success has been palpable to say the least.  We can’t wait to get back to the little, pink mushroom to serve you again soon.

All our love,

And then some more,
